Hoosier National Forest - Tipsaw Trail

Parking is available (see map). A parking fee is charged inside the Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area between May 15 and October 15. Parking is free at other times of the year. Camping, swimming, boating, and picnicking are also available at the Tipsaw Recreation Area.

Etiquette and Rules

  • Fees: Mountain bikers and horse riders age 17 and older are required to have a trail permit to use trails on the Hoosier National Forest. Trail permits are $3.00/day or $25.00/year. Trail permits are available at either the Tell City or Bedford offices of the Hoosier National Forest, through the mail, or from several local stores.   • Mountain bikers are required to stay on trails designated for their use.
  • Observe trail courtesy; mountain bikers yield to hikers and make your approach known well in advance.
  • Motorized vehicles and horses are not permitted on this trail.
  • Pack out your trash.


  • Be aware of hunting seasons.
  • Use precautions for ticks.
  • If a parking lot is not available where you wish to access, be sure your vehicle is off the road.
  • Many trails intersect roadways. If you choose to use a road as part of your trip, be mindful of traffic.
